According to a Statistics Canada report released Monday, Toronto charities had to make do with considerably less last year.
The value of donations to charities in 2008 fell 12 per cent in Toronto, to $1.8 billion from $2.1 billion, based on income tax returns.
Ironically, the number of overall donors in the city climbed by 2.4 per cent, from 900,290 to 922,310, according to the annual report on charitable donations.
